Welcoming Åland

The people of Åland have been familiar with travelling ever since the great sailing ship era a hundred years ago. English is widely spoken.

Foreigners are warmly welcomed - we have more than 90 different nationalities living here today.

You can reach Åland by sea from Sweden, Finland and Estonia and by air from Helsinki,Turku and Stockholm. There are many daily connections.

The public holidays are Christmas, New Year´s Day, Epiphany, Easter, May Day, Ascension Day, Pentecost, Midsummer, All Saints Day and Finland`s Independence Day, the 6th of December. Official Åland is closed on the 9th of June to celebrate the Autonomy Day.

Åland belongs to the European Union but please note that Åland has an exemption from the EU tax union. You will need a Carnet de Passage for technical equipment.

Euro is the official currency.
